The Nepal Police headquarters has formed a probe panel to investigate the Kathmandu Police Chief and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ramesh Kharel, on his remarks on senior police officers in a public program.
SSP Kharel, who was headed by a public program in Kathmandu on Saturday, said that the Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) had 'power centers' with briefcases for their promotion to the post of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) .
A three-member probe committee has been formed under the leadership of the DIG Bigyan Raj Sharma of Police headquarters, saying that Kharel, a responsible post in the organization, broke the organizational chain of command by the authorities of the organization.
The committee has been directed to submit a report within a week after Kharel by the comments on the probe. The committee includes SSP Ramesh Pandey from the Police Commissioner's Office and SP Ganesh Thapa from the Law Division.
Meanwhile, preparation for SSP Kharel's transfer is also underway indicating that he made remarks and did not follow the warnings as directed by headquarter on different occasions.
Few days ago, Kharel had named the senior police officials who were good and bad during a television interview. The police headquarter expressed his reservation during the time. Kharel, who is widely considered competent, fearless and skilled, has been criticized for late remarks.
